ERROR: Hero's Journey Podcast

A couple of students have informed me that they encountered an ERROR message from Google Drive when attempting to listen to/download the Hero's Journey Podcast, which was linked on Friday.
Here are a couple of options, if you're stuck:

  1. This is a link to a copied and re-uploaded Hero's Journey Podcast File (67mb). It's still on Google Drive though, which means at some point, it too will reach an Access Limit. No, I don't know what the Access Limit is.
  2. The podcast is also hosted on NPR's website (I think.) Click this link to go to the TED Radio Hour page on NPR's website.
  3. This podcast is available, for FREE, in the iTunes Store. Click this link to open your iTunes, and download the file from Apple. Make sure you get Episode #112, The Hero's Journey. It was originally published on 12/17/15, so look closely to make sure you find the right one
    1. Also, this is the original recording, and as such, will contain ads.
  4. And just in case you lost your hard copy of the Podcast Listening Guide Questions that I gave out on friday, I'm re-linking the document here.

Perseus & Medusa

First, I checked students' annotations of the Perseus chapter, as well as the details in the Perseus column of the Hero chart.

Then, we watched a film presentation of the myth in class today. There was (almost) no CGI, and students were disappointed, but well-behaved.

On The Nature of Love (5 & 6)

Short classes for students today, as Clubs met for the first time this semester!
Upon arrival, and after attendance, students were offered a 15Q Review Kahoot over Ch. 5 & 6. Scores will be formative grades.
After that, students were allowed to use their Mythology books in order to complete the On the Nature of Love Worksheet. While students worked on the document, I came around and checked student Annotations on 5 & 6.
Lastly, students had the opportunity to share feedback with their small groups, and the class, about the statements on the sheet and their own agreement or disagreement with them.

Demeter, and Dionysus...or...

...A Season for Moderation.

The Greeks were wise in their study of human nature, no question about it. Today's exploration and reinforcement of Chapter 2: Two Great Gods of Earth, demonstrates this.

First, students received this Second String Gods worksheet. It is not HW, it is not for a grade - it is simply a resource students are invited to use as they study for next Tuesday's Mythology Quiz #1.

While students worked on that document, I came around to check on students' annotations from chapter 2. Some students completed the assignment, others did not.

Then, classes reviewed the particularly human significance of Demeter and Dionysus with the help of these Powerpoint slides:
HW:
  • Read and Annotate Ch. 3: Creation
  • Squeak in some Membean! Session closes Sunday 1/14 @ midnight!
  • Be safe out there with this weather!

Mythology: Study Guide

It includes several chapters that Mrs. Syes and I are skipping. Use only what you want, or need.

This is not required, it is simply offered as a study tool and comprehension assistant.

Greek God Charades!

Today, students drew names of ancient Greek deities. They then had a couple of minutes to come up with a way to present that god or goddess to the class in a Charades/Pictionary kind of way.

Saw some super-cool ideas, including but not limited to: A couple of Earthquakes, the "wave" (like from sports games), various wedding proposals, and the "Water Dance" in 4th.

Good job!

HW:

  • Bring Notes notebook to class tomorrow for Intro to Mythology lecture
  • Do Membean (Ends Sunday)

Beginning MYTHOLOGY

Woo, it sure was cold outside! Cold enough for our second 2-hr Delay of the year! It was pretty...cool.

Students today received the 'Before Beginning Mythology' Anticipation Guide, and were invited to share their answers.

HW:
  • Read the Introduction to Classical Mythology (it's before Part One Chapter One)
    • Yes, it's dry and boring. But it's important and it's necessary, so read it.
  • Complete the Introduction Study Guide Questions
    • The back of this document also contained the Big 12 Deity Chart. This is not for HW, but it is a document we'll need in class next week.
  • Do some Membean!
    • Current session lasts from 1/3-1/14
And Merry Christmas to Da Squad members!!!
